Did you know that every drone operators are required to apply for a permit from CAAM (Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia) before flying any drone or UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) in Malaysia?
Recently CAAM has published a kind reminder on their official Facebook page to drone enthusiasts and video production companies that a permit is required before you go flying.
While it is not explicitly stated, it seems that application is required whether you are flying for fun (hobbyist) or to produce commercial works.
Here’s the summary of what you need to know:
1.Apply for permit 14 days before you plan to fly your drone.
2.Pay RM250 application fees for a small drone weighs below 20kg.
3.Pay RM1,000 application fees for a drone that weighs more than 20kg.
4.A drone of more than 20kg is required to be registered.

CONSIDER GETTING DRONE INSURANCE
As a commercial drone operator, your income revolves around your drones. Just as for other expensive machinery, your commercial drones should be insured. Generally speaking, there are two types of drone insurance available: Third-Party Liability Insurance and Drone Hull Insurance.
Third-Party Liability Insurance offers protection against accidents caused by the drone or any objects falling from the drone. You could be held legally responsible for injuries or damage to private property, but liability coverage ensures that you will not get caught having to pay out of your pocket.

Mudas is in discussion with CAAM on devising training modules and certification for pilots.
It is also working with Pacific Insurance Bhd to devise insurance plans, which would provide coverage in the event the drone causes property damage or personal injury. “I foresee all companies owning at least one drone. In the future it won’t just be a luxury but a necessity,” he says.
With this in mind, he believes CAAM will eventually introduce licenses for pilots, especially those intending to fly commercially. At the moment, commercial pilots are regulated and required to get a variety of permits to fly drones.

Lebih 20 Dron diaktifkan ke kawasan terjejas banjir
PUTRAJAYA, 24 Dis – Lebih 20 unit dron telah diaktifkan hari ini bagi operasi bantuan pemulihan banjir di kawasan terjejas di Selangor termasuk bagi kerja-kerja pemantauan dan penghantaran bekalan kritikal seperti makanan, ubat-ubatan dan power bank, kata Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI).
MOSTI dalam kenyataan hari ini memaklumkan dron yang dikendalikan Pasukan Petugas Kecemasan Perkhidmatan Dron Khas (PTK2Dron) itu telah digerakkan ke kawasan seperti Taman Sri Muda, Kampung Lombong dan Lanchong, Kampung Lanchang Jaya, Taman Alam Indah, dan Kampung Jalan Kebun. “Usaha pemantauan dan penghantaran bekalan kritikal in dilaksanakan di Selangor but masa ini tertakluk kepada keperluan dari semasa ke semasa,” menurut kenyataan itu.
MOSTI berkata PTK2Dron, yang diselaraskan oleh Technology Park Malaysia (TPM) juga bersedia untuk menghulurkan bantuan di negeri lain yang terjejas banjir mengikut kesesuaian, permintaan dan keperluan pihak berkuasa tempatan.
MOSTI berkata pengendalian dron berkenaan telah diuji di Perak pada Oktober lepas dan didapati efektif dari segi penjimatan masa serta kos sebagai alternatif kepada kaedah logistik seperti menggunakan bot. Dron-dron itu juga telah diuji untuk penghantaran ke lokasi yang mencabar dari segi geografi, termasuk ke rang pendaratan yang sempit dan terhad.
MOSTI berkata kesemua dron yang digerakkan untuk bencana banjir itu adalah merupakan tanggungjawab sosial (SR) syarikat
